My motivation as teacher:

Science is fun, we have to spark the interest

Cus D`amato like to say:" A boy comes to me with a spark of interest, I feed the spark and it becomes a flame. I feed the flame and it becomes a fire. I feed the fire and it becomes a roaring blaze".

"Hands-on laboratory science experiences are critical to the learning process across all areas of study, beginning with kindergarten and continuing through post-secondary education. Research has shown that students who engage in well-designed laboratory experiences develop problem-solving and critical-thinking skills, as well as gain exposure to reactions, materials, and equipment in a lab setting. Sustained investments in hands-on experiences help inspire students to further their education and prepare them for high-technology careers by fostering skills sought by potential employers."

ACS Position Statement

I`m a chemist who specialist in biophysical chemistry; however, I got interested in genetics, molecular, and cell biology and pursued research in these areas in academics as well as in companies. I unite all of the disciplines in my own research. At iCLA, my main duty was to establish an Integrated Science, Genetics, and Cell Biology Laboratory , a college within the Yamanashi Gakuin University.

I am a natural scientist, but I am researching ethical and philosophical issues because a multidisciplinary approach is necessary to investigate the current breakthroughs (stem cells ...).

I admire the book from Dennis Noble: The music of Life and Rachel Carsons: Silent Spring, they reminds us: "The origin

of science is in the desire to know causes; and the origin of all false science and imposture is in the desire to accept false causes rather than none; or, which is the same thing, in the unwillingness to acknowledge our own ignorance."

William Hazlitt (1778?-1830) British writer, drama critic, social commentator, philosopher and painter.

Fall Semester Courses

Since April 2019, iCLA is not offering natural science courses; these are courses I developed during my time at iCLA

Cell Biology

Beside the major task to establish a laboratory from scratch with an extrremly tight budget, I maintain a high-level in my research activities.

My publication in collaboration with a student : "Public  misunderstanding of genetically modified organisms: how science and society are interconnected", can be downloaded:

Science, Technology, and Society provides students with an education for the twenty-first century. It looks at the modern society to understand the success and failures, in a scientific stringent way, to enable a sustainable society. The best Liberal Arts Colleges in Japan, that are seriously concerned about the future of their students, offer a sophisticated natural science education (chemistry, biochemistry, genetics, engineering, mathematics, and informatics); https://tgu.mext.go.jp/en/).
